What is ‘Natural Wine’? – Saturday, March 11th 3 pm – 5 pm

The term “natural wine” is controversial in its own right, implying that wines that don’t fall in this category are somehow unnatural. Perhaps a better term would be minimal intervention wines, but that’s a bit clunky. Even if we set aside the terminology, these wines, which are painstakingly made in a manner that eschews adding or taking anything away from the grapes to create the final product, are at the center of a rift in the wine world. Many see wines made with this philosophy as rife with flaws and even an affront to what modern wine making has achieved. Others view these wines as a truer representation of the hard work done in the vineyard and a more authentic representation of the grapes and terroir, (the ubiquitous wine term that signifies a sense of place). We will compare similar wines made in more conventional ways with their more ‘natural’ counterparts. As always, price of entry includes hors d’oeuvres.
